Structures
The Ypsilanti Water Tower was completed on February 3, 1890. This structure stands 147 feet and holds 250,000 gallons of water and was constructed for $21,368. The tower is operated today by the Ypsilanti Community Utilities Authority.
In 1897, Starkweather Hall was built on the campus of Michigan Normal School (now known as Eastern Michigan University). It was the first building on a state university campus to be erected specifically for religious purposes - originally a center for the Student's Christian Association.
- The Ford Freeway, which originally ran from Wyoming Avenue in Detroit to Carpenter Road in Ypsilanti, was built in 1941 to bring workers from Detroit to Ypsilanti to work at the Bomber Plant during World War II.
- I-94 was the first highway in the United States and Ypsilanti was the location of the first triple-decker highway bridge in the United States.
